TTSMaker Alternative: When a Free Tool Is Enough and When It Is Not
By GetMeAudio Team · · 3 min read
TTSMaker is a popular free text-to-speech website, and for quick clips it is hard to beat on price. This page is a fair look at what it offers and when a different tool makes sense.
*Details below were checked on 20 September 2026 from TTSMaker's homepage and commercial license terms. Limits and terms change, so check the site before you decide.*
What TTSMaker offers
- Free use with a weekly allowance. TTSMaker states a free limit of 20,000 characters per week for most voices, and some voices are unlimited.
- Commercial use. Its license terms say audio can be used commercially, including on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, with no fee and no attribution required.
- Paid options. A separate TTSMaker Pro site sells plans for higher volume. Check its pricing page for current figures.
For short scripts and testing, that is a genuinely good deal.
Where GetMeAudio fits instead
GetMeAudio is built for finishing a voiceover rather than only converting text.
- Exact pauses. Insert Pause chips give silence from a fraction of a second up to 10 minutes, with no markup to write.
- Background music that ducks. A music bed that lowers under the voice, mixed into one finished MP3 or WAV.
- Long scripts. Scripts up to 50,000 characters, and a single download of up to 60 minutes of audio.
- Pronunciation rules. Fix a name or acronym once and it is corrected everywhere in the project.
- Voice choice. Hundreds of voices in 150+ languages and accents, with a free sample of each.
- Subtitles. Download SRT or VTT from the same script.
The trade-off is cost: finished downloads on GetMeAudio are paid, about $0.15 a minute (Standard) or $0.25 a minute (Natural). If a free weekly allowance covers what you make, TTSMaker is the cheaper choice.
